What are enzymes and why are they important?

Enzymes are protein molecules that work as catalysts in metabolism, for each task there is a special type of enzyme. Enzymes are small independent elements, they:

- They act independently, independently of cells, including extracts.

- They remain intact for a long time and their function can be repeated several times (sometimes for days at a time) until they are exhausted.

- Old cells are removed and replaced with new ones.

- Decaying plant parts consume oxygen, so it is important to remove them from the plant. Enzymes break down these decaying parts, forming an end product that is additional food for the root (dextrose)
